An Overview Of Wealthy Affiliate Vs The Home Business Academy
Wealthy Affiliate:
Wealthy Affiliate (WA) is an Affiliate marketing program for teaching you to create your own business by marketing affiliate products. You create your own business website and use a blog to obtain organic traffic. Then, directing that traffic to any affiliate product you may choose to market on your website.
You have 3 directions to choose when marketing with the WA training program. You can market a product of your own, or create a niche of your own and market related products, or become an affiliate of WA and market The WA Training Program. What you choose to do is up to you.
If you choose to market WA, everyone you recruit to join WA, is assigned to you forever as your member. You have the responsibility to mentor them with one on one coaching, and provide any help they may need. But, there are no points or level increases for adding members, because WA is not a Multi-level marketing (MLM) Company. You do earn recurring monthly commissions from your members, but you do not earn anything from their individual sales.
WA also has courses on email marketing and email list building, but they are recommended later when you have a good traffic source to your website. They recommend concentrating on ranking your site first.
Home Business Academy:
The Home Business Academy (HBA) also teaches marketing using an Affiliate marketing program type of business. The difference between WA and HBA, is mainly that HBA training is focused more on Affiliate marketing of HBA. Their method is referred to as creating a team and building a business selling HBA. They also promote email marketing and creating an email list as a priority from the beginning.
HBA also suggests that the training they teach you, can be applied to any other product in Affiliate marketing.
HBA requires several products be purchased to create sales funnels, and use ads (both paid and organic) for marketing yourself as a brand. They have additional training you can purchase for linking your sales funnel to your autoresponder for building your email list as well. It is an intense course to get set up
Everyone you recruit as an Affiliate of the Home Business Academy is on your team. However, no bonus points or level increase is applied to your team members. It is not a MLM company. You do earn the monthly recurring commissions from people you recruit to join as your team members. But, like WA you do not earn anything from their individual sales.

Similarities Of Wealthy Affiliate Vs The Home Business Academy
Both Wealthy Affiliate (WA) and The Home Business Academy (HBA) are teaching Affiliate marketing. And as I said, HBA is focused primarily on promoting HBA. With HBA training, you are taught to brand yourself as your business. In fact, they recommend that you to buy a domain in your own name.
This is a good idea, but building an email list is not easy, so this can be overwhelming for beginners. HBA sells you an additional product for doing this. That makes it easier, but again increases the costs for entrepreneurs who are strapped for cash.
WA offers separate training in two different areas. A Certified Training Course in Marketing Products, and a “Bootcamp” WA Affiliate Marketing Course for those interested in marketing the WA Training product.
WA teaches two different approaches for those promoting WA, and those who choose to brand themselves as Affiliate Marketers, or brand a website in the Make Money Niche.
Building a Brand
Whether you decide to brand yourself or build a brand around your niche is entirely up to you , and with WA you learn how to do both methods. If you decide to market WA as an affiliate, they lean toward branding yourself, much like HBA. But, they don’t promote buying the website in your own name, but that is an option.
Again, the choice of direction is up to you. Videos are provided to show you how to set up an autoresponder and start your own email list. But, the WA focus is on getting your website built and and using your blog to rank well in Google with good SEO for getting solid organic traffic to your website.
Then, when your website is established with good quality content, you start to build an email list. Building an email list is not easy, so WA concentrates your efforts on establishing a good ranking quality website first. It also incurs additional costs by requiring the autoresponder and set up training.
Let’s look at both programs in a side by side comparison.

Wealthy Affiliate Vs Home Business Academy Affiliate Programs
Both Programs have an Affiliate program of their own, and they differ in a few areas. One main difference is the percentage of commissions paid. WA pays 50% while HBA pays a whopping 80%. And HBA pays after 7 days, while WA holds the commissions for yearly payments for 30 days.
Wealthy Affiliate All Expense Paid Trip to Las Vegas
One nice perk of WA is the free trip to Las Vegas for recruiting 300 new members each year. It offers some great food, some gambling and some exclusive WA Swag merchandise!
HBA only has the Top Affiliate List. You get your name on the list, which is nice, but other than bragging rights, there is no reward.
WA also offers free website hosting for up to 50 websites. This means you could have a business creating and selling websites if you choose. And Domains can also be purchased at WA, which also result in commissions.
HBA website hosting is extra, and themes are supplied by the host they use, Go Daddy. No commission bonus is paid.

Differences Of Wealthy Affiliate Vs The Home Business Academy
The most obvious difference between WA and HBA, is the cost. HBA is double the cost of WA. Both platforms have a good proven system for creating a successful business. But, for the person creating a new business, the WA model is more cost effective.

HBA Freedom Launchpad ™
HBA is using additional products like their Freedom Launchpad™, that add additional cost to the expenses each month. This product give you the step by step training that you need to connect the HBA Funnel product to your landing page and your email autoresponder.
The Ultimate Email & Traffic Swipe File™
HBA also offers an email marketing product as and extra fee to help you with the email list you are being taught to create. It offers training to help get you started with your email list quickly.
The HBA Funnel Builder™
The HBA Funnel Builder is another extra product you will need that gives you the ability to create sales pages and marketing funnels to use in your business. HBA uses this product in their training, so you will need to purchase it to follow along in the training. This is a monthly extra fee you will also have to pay each month in addition to your premium HBA monthly fee.
One thing I would like to mention, is the fact that with WA you do not need a funnel builder because you learn to create you own landing pages without needing to pay extra for a funnel tool.

Wealthy Affiliate And The Home Business Academy Are Legit
After spending about 72 hours researching and comparing these products, I found them both to be legit products. Anyone who buys either product will be able to create their own business. The HBA Product costs quite a bit more, but is not a scam.
I personally like the Wealthy Affiliate product more because of the lower cost, and it delivers more bang for the buck than The Home Business Academy. Both products are good products and it comes down to how you want to make money, and what you want your business to become.
I like the idea of a high ranking website in google with a lot of quality content, verses a landing page with a sales funnel. When you build a solid foundation under your business, it will last longer and rank better. Why not build a business with a solid foundation?
I am Chas, creator and founder of Help For Scams And Frauds. I started affiliate marketing and earning money online in 2015. And I can tell you, anyone can do this. But, in order to build a business the right way you must have the right training and avoid the get rich quick schemes.

Hi Chas, I enjoyed this well written and very informative comparison between WA and HBA. As a member of Wealthy Affiliate myself I can honestly say it gives far more value for money. Even though HBA pays 80% commission with a payout in 7 days I can’t justify the price. In addition, you have to pay extra for an email marketing course with HBA. They may teach methods that take longer to get results in WA but I’d focus on free SEO traffic anytime! Thanks for sharing:)
Hi Kathy,
I am glad you enjoyed my review. I totally agree with you, Wealthy Affiliate is the best deal anywhere. They do have a separate course for email marketing and WA has an email training video included in the PPlus membership.
And how can you beat free SEO Traffic?
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, I hope you stop back soon!

Thanks for sharing your comparison. I was a member of HBA and still am a member of WA. I completely agree with your review here. Wealthy Affiliate is a much better option because they actually teach you how to make money in any niche versus HBA, where they teach you mainly how to promote their tools and membership to others. In essence, it seems a bit scammy, but in the end, it is legit. Both platforms are legit! However, there’s no doubt about it. Wealthy Affiliate beats Home Business Academy by a mile! What I like about WA the most is the community. I’ve been a member of tons of training programs and platforms and I have never come across a community like Wealthy Affiliate. Running an online business with the WA community is too easy. Thanks again for sharing this post and keep up the good work!
Hi Ivan,
Thank you for the kind words. I am glad to hear you agree with me, there is no better training for the same amount of money anywhere that give you all the benefits of Wealthy Affiliate. The one part of the training that HBA delivers reminded me of dealing with a MLM. They tell you to recruit your friends and family, and I never like doing that. It causes resentment.
Yes the community at WA is outstanding as well, along with the best support I have ever experienced anywhere.

Thanks for doing all the hard work of comparing these two products for us. Your review is extensive and has told me everything I want to know.
I’m already with WA and am really happy with the product, the training, and the 24/7 support they and the other members provide. However, I have been wondering what else is available in the marketplace to expand my business reach. HBA seemed like a good option, however now I realize that they are building a business around promoting themselves, I think it’s not for me.
With WA I have already learned to set up a website in my preferred niche and I am enjoying writing content about topics I am passionate about. I like you “like the idea of a high ranking website in google with a lot of quality content, verses a landing page with a sales funnel.”
Thanks for the information.
Hi Andrew,
Thank you for your kind words. I am glad to help you and other research the products available online. As a member of Wealthy Affiliate, you know what I am talking about when I say it is the best deal around. The support is unrivaled anywhere as well. They are very fast to respond to any issue, and always get it resolved quickly.
HBA is a platform that is geared towards selling products similar to “Clickbank” products and running ads to promote a product launch. It is not as focused on websites and website blogging. I think that a blog is a more reliable and stable income, that doesn’t carry the cost of running ads and testing ad copy.

This is a really great comparison between two of the most known platforms in online marketing learning. I was actually torn between those two, because I have friends that registered in either of those two. However, I’m leaning toward Wealthy Affiliate because it seems more affordable to my money. Do you think it’s best to learn first at Wealthy Affiliate and then switch to HBA for learning email marketing and solo ads strategy?
Hi Alblue,
Thank you for the kind words. I can tell you that overall Wealthy Affiliates is the biggest bang for the buck anywhere. they offer comparable training that can be used on any Paid Per Click (PPC) Campaign. Jay has a 5 week series on Facebook ads that would be better than solo ads. The Facebook platform reaches so many people, and you can target very niche specific audiences.
WA also has 18 video courses on PPC training that can be applied to any ads campaign including Solo ads. They also have 5 classes on Bing ads, 6 classes on Pinterest, and 30 classes on YouTube video marketing! That would give you about all the training you would ever be able to use in a lifetime!
Thanks for leaving a comment, and asking such a great question! I hope to see you back again soon!

Great review, Chas! I have often been skeptical of some of these opportunities. The opportunity for scams in the online world has increased dramatically over the last decade. Those who promise making millions with no experience and offer no training are looking to take your money.
I am sure there are many legit programs out there, as there are people making money doing this every day. It is great to see what actual training you are going to get.
Thank you for highlighting the pros and cons of these two legit opportunities.
I see that WA also offers Yearly as well as Monthly payment plans. Does HBA offer any yearly payment plans?
Hi Prescott,
Thank you. It is always good to be skeptical of any opportunity. Those get rick quick schemes don’t exist. Online marketing is hard work and training just points you in the right direction. All training is not created equal, so it is better to know what you are going to learn, and what kind of business model they have.
I have not seen any yearly payment plans for HBA. If you are interested you can check out their website and ask the support staff.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I hope to see you again very soon.
